For nature lovers the hinterland of Aubagne offers many opportunities for hiking, duration and various difficulties, which will allow you to discover exceptional panoramas.
Start with the Garlaban massif, made famous by the work of Marcel Pagnol, which dominates the city of Aubagne and culminates at 731 meters above sea level. Various hiking trails from Aubagne will allow you to discover its beautiful flora, its many caves like Grosibou, and its summits: the red head and Taoumé. The opportunity for a stroll in the heart of Provence, in the middle of the garrigue, rosemary, thyme, oaks and pines.
Discover also the sumptuous landscapes of the Sainte-Baume massif and its exceptional forest sheltering many Mediterranean species. From the inn of Sainte-Baume, still held today by the Dominicans you can access the ridges of the massif. Visit the cave of Mary Magdalene, natural cavity accessible after a 45-minute walk where the saint would have lived recluse for 30 years. It is still today a high place of pilgrimage in Provence.
You can also walk the summits and ridges of the massif of Etoile. This massif which extends over 10 kilometers crosses 18 communes of Bouches du Rhône. Its highlights are the head of the Gran-Puech (779 meters), the Pilon du Roi (710 meters) and Mount Julien (647 meters). From its peaks you can enjoy a breathtaking view to the south, the bay of Marseille and its creeks and north on the Sainte Victoire.
